Welcome to Rome’s playgrounds!
Many top sporting events feature in the Rome Sports calendar: The Six Nations Rugby at the Flaminio Stadium, just a short walk from Polo Hotel, Tennis Masters Series, Football (Soccer) in Rome, Rome Marathon, Golf in Rome, International Horse Show, Golden Gala of Athletics. Seats at the famous Stadio Olimpico sell out fast but even the cheapest seats offer great views.
If you would like to play a relaxing game of tennis head for the Circolo della Stampa. Golf can be played at the Country Club Castelgandolfo near the Pope’s summer residence.
Are you looking for a regenerating moment of wellness? Then visit the new AQUANIENE Club open for children, parents and families. The club offers several swimming-pools as well as a well equipped fitness centre. In June 2009 the club hosted the Champions during the 13th FINA WORLD CHAMPIONSHIPS 2009.
Everyone can indulge in roller blading, cycling and scooting through public parks. Young guests will also enjoy boating on the lake or visiting the Bioparco zoo, the charming Cinema dei Piccoli and even the Galleria Borghese. Of course if you have children in tow nothing will beat a picnic in the Borghese gardens– especially if it has a large selection of gelatos!!
Excellent child friendly sites include:
The Coliseum and Roman Forum, the Centro Storico at the Pantheon, the Sistine Chapel (do buy tickets ahead of time to avoid standing in long queues during very hot days with little visitors!), add a little extra food for thought at the Catacombs of the Old Appian Way Park and the Ostia Antica.
EXPLORA - the children's museum of Rome is located near to the Polo Hotel. It is the firts Italian children's museum, designed for children, schools and families. It is located in via Flaminia 82 close to the historical centre of Rome, not far from Piazza del Popolo and next to the Villa Borghese Gardens. Explora is a child-sized play town where everything can be observed, touched and experimented with. Visitors come to contact with facts, phenomena and everyday events: environment, communication, economy and new technologies. Children are offered the opportunity to discover the mystery of how things function through observation, touch and experiments, with the help od facilitators.
The most impressive museum is the Palazzo Massimo alle Terme (remember that most museums are closed on Mondays), the Santa Maria della Concezione on the Via Veneto is a favourite with many children as they are sure to be amazed by the Capuchin bone cemetery. Take a carriage ride and relive early Roman Carrozze (available at St Peters, the Spanish Steps or the Pantheon) an alternative mode of transport is the #3 tram ride through Rome (board at the Viale delle Belle Arti in the Borghese Gardens).
Roman Aqueducts are a great way to introduce history and allow children a glimpse into ancient Rome. The Goths wrecked most of these waterways in the 6th century but you can still find good examples next to Via Lemonia in southeast Rome.
Experience a stay at the Polo Hotel to explore the Eternal City and the major spots in its surroundings
